Cat & mouse game

Ian laughed. "Yeah, I guess there is worse", he agreed, taking a sip of his drink. He ate in silence for a bit, since he saw that his guest was quite hungry. His guest... "You still didn't tell me your name", he pointed out.

"This date is not a full success yet," Newt replied with a grin. "How about you tell me a bit more about yourself. See if we have anything in common." He winked.

Ian huffed, a smile on his lips. "A though one, aren't you?" Then he mused a bit. "Something on myself... let's see. I grew up in the countryside... I have five sisters... and yes, I have always been this tall", he laughed.

"... Your poor mother," Newt commented with a heavy, dramatic sigh. "But... five sisters, eh. Are you the youngest?" he asked him with a knowing smirk.

Ian scratched his neck, with an embarrassed chuckle. "Three older sisters, two younger ones. But yeah I have been the younger sibiling for quite a while. Does it show?", he asked then, taking a bite of his dish.

"A bit. But you're cute, so I don't mind." Newt smiled widely, then finished his plate. He had left nothing aside. "This is a nice restaurant, by the way. Thank you for taking me here."

Ian's ears flamed again. He wasn't really used to receive compliments. "You are pretty cute yourself", he blurted out before he could stop himself, then drowning the rest of it with his drink. "Ah, I'm glad you liked this place. It's my favourite", he smiled then.

"... You have to tell me what you find cute about myself, because cleary, you're the first one calling me that," Newt laughed.

"Uhh...well maybe cute it's not exactly the word I'd use... let's say you are quite... well..." Ian was literally sweating. He couldn't even bring himself to look at the other man. "... do you want dessert? I want a dessert", he said, and called for it, desperately trying not to make more of a fool of himself.

"Oh I do want a dessert, yes," Newt replied, as he laid his elbow on the table, and rested his chin in the palm of his hand. Now this was getting interesting. Looked like he still had some charm left.

Ian asked for two plates, and for more beer. He needed alcohol. What the hell was happening? What was he, a goddamn adolescent? That man was a criminal. A thief! The only thoughts he should have had about him should have involved prison, not a... a DATE! He felt so irritated with himself that he finished his new drink in a single gulp.

"Are you okay ?" Newt asked him kindly, as he gently bumped his foot against Ian's leg, once again. "It looks like you're getting warm, all of a sudden."

"I'm... okay", Ian answered, forcing a smile on his lips. "Why don't you tell me something about you now?" Mister Moustache came back with their desserts - cake -, and threw a pitying, knowing glance to the marine before going away.

Newt arched a brow. "Well, I'm a single child. Or well, for as much that I know, I am. My mother abandonned me with my father because she didn't want any trouble knowing he was living in the streets. Other than that... I have a tiny boat I use to go from one small island to another ~"

Ian nodded with a small smile. "I see. You travel a lot then! Must be an adventurous life. And a tough one. The first time I've ever travelled was when I went away to begin the training...", he trailed off, taking a bite of his cake.

"Do you live far from there ?" Newt asked him, looking genuinely interested.

"Oh, yes. I come from further away, in the south", Ian answered, waving towards that direction. "What about you? Where do you come from?", he asked, finishing his cake. Hey, his stomach was big, and so were his bites.

"North blue, way in the North. I rather enjoy the warmth, though," he replied with a smile, as he finished his dessert. "So. Do you often take thieves on a date ? ~"

"You've come a long way then!", Ian half whistled impressed, only to almost choke on his own words. "This...! T-this is not a date! This is a payback for your broken nose. And NO, I usually don't take criminals to eat with me", he answered, trying to get back his infamous resting bitch face.

"Aww. Too bad. It felt like a damn nice date," Newt replied with a grin. "And you're definitely cute. And my type. Are you sure you don't want to try this ? ~"

"To try... try what, exactly? To date you?" Ian chewed nervously on his lower lip. He cursed himself from his hair to the tips of his toes. God, why was his will so weak, when it came to things like this? Usually he was way more resilient, and less vulnerable!

"Yes," Newt replied with a sincere smile. "I mean... No offense, but you seem flustered by every single one of my flirting comments. And you're quite handsome and cute. I mean /I/ would give it a try." He played a bit with the remainings of his own beer, making it twirl in his glass.

Ian looked down, thinking it over for a bit. He honestly couldn't think of a single reason to say no, nor muster some disdain. And that made him a bit angry. Was he really considering dating a thief just because of mixed feelings about his personal history, hope of making him change and because he was very pretty?
"... well, I... suppose trying won't hurt...?"
Yeah. Nurse complex is bad.

Newt smiled again, and stood up. "Alright. Get out, I'll pay for lunch," he offered, as he went to find a waiter quickly, beofre the marine could ever protest!"

Ian gaped a bit, but the other man had been too quick for him. "But- but!" He sighed. 'You had one job, Ian', he thought bitterly to himself as he stood up and went out. At least now he had time to panic!
