"Nothing, I'm just..." Yvonne rubbed her forehead, closing her eyes. "... I'm just a bit tired. Undercover missions aren't kind on me. Is it ok for you if I take a shower, while you talk with Roxanne? You can tell me what you got later." She smiled up at him what she hoped was a more convincing smile.

Donovan blinked, confused. "A shower, now ? ... Listen, if you need to rest, we can ask your friend to come back tomorrow morning. This is not a matter of life and death, we can wait, and rest a bit."

Roxanne nodded at that. "Listen to him, sweetheart, there is no need to talk right now. Don't act like a stubborn old lady on me, rest your pretty little head and clean up your grim thoughts, hm? We'll see each other tomorrow!" She smiled at them and waved a goodbye before leaving with Sophia.

Yvonne sighed. "She knows me all too well for my own good", she muttered, pinching her nose while entering the room. "I'm sorry, I don't know what's gotten into me", she told Donovan.

"Are you sure ?" Donovan frowned. "You weren't like that until those men came in. Have you met them before during other missions ?"

"..." Yvonne sat on her bed. She didn't look at him. "... I've met those men... long ago. They were at my husband's funeral." She clawed at her gown. "Isaac never talked with me about his job. But the last time I saw him, I knew something was wrong. He was terrified." She bit her lip. "Those men were his colleagues. And... I am sure they were the ones who killed him."

Donovan sat by her side, and wrapped an arm around her. "I'm going to call Kizaru. You and I are getting home," he told her, frowning.

Yvonne quickly turned her head to him, her eyes widening. "...! No! There is no way in hell I am giving up this mission!" She got up from the bed, escaping his hold. "I have been looking for them my whole life, years in the sea! With all the help I had from my friends, I couldn't get to them. This is what I've been waiting for since the day they offered me their hypocritical CONDOLENCES!" She nearly snarled.

"Yvonne. We didn't come here to kill them," Donovan answered her carefully. "Kizaru can't cover you if you snap. I... I know how painful this is to you, but you should calm down first. Please," he told her as he got up to softly lay his hand on her shoulder.

"I don't care for killing them. I want to see their lives crushed. Be this by the claws of justice or by mine. Whichever comes first." Yvonne said in a neutral tone, almost cold one. Her aggressiveness seemed to have wore down at least. She sighed, her hand reaching for his on her shoulder.

Donovan softened, and slowly took her in his arms. "We'll do that. But if they saw you once, they might guess who we are. Maybe should we change our strategy regarding our mission."

Yvonne held him tight to her. "What should we do?", she murmured. She grabbed his shirt a bit. "Donovan. You know how this feels. This time I am counting on you to keep me on the right path."

"I'll be there for you," Donovan promised her as he kissed her forehead. "You won't ruin yourself. You won't snap. Our mission will be successful, and those bastards will end up in Impell Down."

Yvonne murmured her thanks, still keeping her face hidden in his chest. She stayed like that for a while, then slowly getting away, her face tainted with shame, looking down. "I am sorry. Snapping like that is really... not how I've been taught. I didn't want you to see me snap."

"You know what ?" Donovan said with a smile, as he softly caressed her cheek. "I'd rather have you snap on my watch, than when I'm not around. For now, we'll merely try to get you to relax, ok? Those assholes won't fly away."

Yvonne smiled softly at him, leaning into his caress. "You're too kind with me", she said, turning a bit to nuzzle into his palm, kissing it lightly. "They can't fly away, no. Not on Sophia's watch, that's for sure."

Donovan smiled kindly, and softly guided her back to the bed, where he lied down with her. "Do you think she understood what went wrong ?"

Yvonne sighed and let Donovan guide her, then laid her head on his chest. "I'm pretty sure she did. Roxanne knows me since a long time ago... and I saw her daughter grow up. We travelled together for a lot of years. Point is, she can see right through me."

Donovan caressed her back, to soothe her. "Perhaps... you two should stay in touch for a bit when we finish our mission. I mean, it sounds like you both need of the other's strength right now."

Yvonne chuckled, stifling her laughter in his chest again, gripping his shirt. "Did you really fall for her scene?" She threw a smile up at him. "That woman grieved once in her life, and she's done since a long long time. You wouldn't believe how distant she can be from her men." She sighed then. "And besides, I am always in touch with all of my few friends."

"... You mean she doesn't care about that poor lad who died in a shipwreck ?" Donovan frowned, a bit defensive about it. Welp, he was Yvonne's 'second choice', of course he should feel a bit odd about the whole thing !

Yvonne smiled a sad smile. "Roxanne is... made that way. She cares, to an extent. But after she got used and tossed away the first time, she learned not to get invested too much. Especially with men that think she's nothing more than a doll." She hugged him tightly. "I am not like that."

Donovan sighed softly, and kept caressing her back softly. "Well. I kind of was that kind of guy, actually," he said, a bit shamelessly. "I was the kind to never last more than one or two rendez-vous. I couldn't bring myself to get attached."

Yvonne kissed him under his jaw, lightly. "I have nothing against that kind of life style. As long as you make your intentions clear." She sighed. "Roxanne, for example, was fine enough for her first man. Until she got pregnant. At that point, he dumped her." She grimaced.

"...Wow. That's harsh, indeed," Donovan winced. "I'm not that kind of bastard, believe me. Well. Not that we're taking risks of it ever happening," he said with an awkward smile.

Yvonne smiled up at him. "Of course not. I do take my precautions. ... or are you suggesting I might be sterile already?" She laughed kindly. "My, am I that old!"
