Don't ask, don't tell

Horknath's greenish skin flushed red with anger. "I do NOT need to sleep every night. Can go three days without, and my reflexes will be the same. WHY would people BOTHER hiring me if I couldn't offer something more than other mercenaries?", he growled loudly, his nostrils flaming. That was it, last time that he tried to work with a dwarf. Were they all like that? He started to pack his stuff too, withput saying another word.

Horknath took a deep, deep breath. 'Let the anger go, said your therapist. It will be easy-peasy, said your therapist'. He dropped his bag, then looked at him, crossing his arms. "Ok. I sleep every three days. I prefer to let the client rest when it is possible, because, in my experience, people get awfully whiny when they don't get their beauty sleep, and so I work like that. Two, I have no more surprises. Three... for God's sake, I didn't look in your bags! I asked, you don't want me to know, fine, I forget about them. It is that easy."

"That's right", Horknath said, still with his arms crossed. "At least you'll be well rested. I had to give a piggypack ride to my last customer because he wouldn't rest enough like a damn idiot, so I'm never taking that risk again."

Horknath snorted, raising a hand up as if swearing. "I promise, I swear. Happy now?" He looked at the dwarf, critically. "And will you stop to be scared that I will rip your bags off of you or what."

Horknath now raised both of his hands in surrender. "Well, whatever makes you feel secure. Guess you gotta protect what gives you work. That's what I do, eve though I do it more literally", he observed.

"Another two days worth of walking", Horknath answered. He put off what was left of the fire, putting some dirt over the wood. "We should arrive in a small town as soon as the sun sets, though."

"Not a problem. I prefer beds, honestly", Horknath shrugged. "And it has been a long time since the last time I managed to have something as luxurious as a mattress."

Horknath smiled back, a bit unsure. "Well, uhm... usually wherever I find a place. But I've been around for very long in the last year, always on the road, so... for me it has mostly been tents and impromptu leaf beds", he added, scratching his head.

"Yeah, well. As I told you, not a lot of people want an half orc around them", Horknath answered with a grunt. "Usually I can't get places in taverns, or inns, unless someone offers me to buy a room." Or unless he managed to find a guitar and strum something. That way usually they gave him a room as a payoff for entertaining customers.

Horknath shrugged. "It's a good suggestion, and you might be right. But first I'd need to have enough funds to go. And I already strain to just make a living, so that would be pretty difficult." He sighed.

"I am. Whenever you're ready, we can go", Horknath said, picking up his bag with a grunt. "Hey, uh, just curiosity. Are dwarves as ill advised about my species as humans and elves? 'Cause if not, I am totally moving towards their territories."

"Oh so I just have to smack the right person. Seems much more easy than becoming another thing entirely", Horknath snorted, starting to walk to the road. "Do you have family, back at your place?"

"Yeah, they usually are. And 'sides, there aren't many travellers during this time of the year. It's less secure, now that politics got complicated, I guess", Horknath observed. Yeah, better change topic. "You sure are willing to go a long road, aren't you?"
