Cat & mouse game

"Huge!" Donovan smiled fondly at that thought. "I have five sisters. Home has always been pretty lively. Maybe that's why I don't go home that often," he chuckled.

Kara smiled again. "It must be nice", she just said. She didn't have brothers, nor sisters. Hers was a rather small family.

"How about you?" Donovan asked with a smile because, well, he wasn't reading the lines in between dialogs as I do ** ROLLS **

"My family's pretty small! 't was just me, my ma, and my dad. Now I only have ma left, aside from an uncle and a cousin", Kara explained. "Dad was a marine too. I took after him I guess!", she smiled.

Donovan smiled kindly. "Wait a second. Are we talking about the former Vice-admiral Odinson?"

Kara beamed. "Yeah! That's my old man! Y'know him? He was totally awesome!" She sighed happily. "I wish to become half as awesome as him one day."

"Are you kidding me?" Donovan beamed back. "I actually enlisted because he inspired me one day! He came to our island to kick pirates out. I've never seen someone pin down someone to the ground that fast... or have I," Donovan smiled to himself, as he looked at Kara.

Kara giggled, scratching her neck, embarrassed. "Hehe, yeah, he was the one who taught me all that stuff. Never succeeded to win against him though", she added with a laugh. "Glad to hear that dad inspired you. He'd be damn proud." Her eyes turned gentler for a moment. Man, did she miss her old man.

Donovan patted her back, gently, feeling sorry to remind her of her lost dad. "Ah, we're getting to the restaurant! We'll be dining over there," he told her as he gestured for the big terrace.

Kara widened her eyes, whistling. "Woo! That sure seems like a fancy place!" She smirked at him, slightly elbowing him. "You sure know how to make a date feel important, heh Donovan?"

"Please, Kara," Donovan said, faking being offended. "I'm the date master. I'm the best at dates. Some might argue That's my only worth, which is kind of rude, but still !"

Kara laughed. "Hey, to each their own, am I right? I can bench press an adult horse, y're the Date Master. We make a great team, y'know!" She laughed more. "And 'sides, this could be the shittiest date ever and I couldn't know, so your reputation is safe."

"... Do you mean you won't be able to compare this date to another one?" Donovan asked, carefully... Quite in shock. Who were the men that didn't take Kara on a date before ? THEY SHOULD BE STONED TO DEATH.

Kara scratched her head thoughtfully. "Well, I've been to... two dates? I think? Stuff like that. Quite forgettable, to be honest", she shrugged distractly. "This is the first actual date I've been asked on. The others were more like casual hangouts!"

".... Kara." Donovan stopped to take her hands in his, facing her. "I promise you I will make sure you'll find pleaty of good reasons to look back on this night as one of your favourites." He only broke his serious look to answer a bring "Yeeees," when a waiter recognized him and asked if he was there for the most romantic table with a sight on the sea.

Kara laughed, trying to hide the fact that her face had gone slightly red. "I'm sure it will be a nice night, Donovan!" She smiled fondly at him. "Y'went really overboard with this, huh?", she asked playfully, hearing about the table. "Are y'used to take people on dates here?"

"Not in that restaurant, to be honest. It's my favourite, though, so I'm glad you agreed to come tonight," Donovan answered with a dashing smile, as he took her to their table.

Kara followed him, sitting down with a laugh. "Y'mean y'sit all by yourself at this nice table, gazing at the sea? That's some romantic picture", she added with a grin.

"Not with the pile of documents I usually bring with me to work over my dining time, trust me," Donovan replied. "Do you fancy some champagne?" he asked her, ready to order two glasses.

Kara snorted, the scene she had imagined suddenly invaded by paperwork with Donovan trying not to drown in it with his dinner. "Never tried that stuff before, but why not", she answered with a smile.

Donovan hence ordered the champagne, and smiled at her. "What makes you laugh?"

"The thought of a lady killer like ye, drowning in his own paperwork with a pasta dish, is plenty enough to make me laugh", Kara answered with a grin, resting her elbows on the table.

"... Do I really have the reputation of a lady killer ?" Asked Donovan, amused. Well, he was also trying to hide his own embarrassment. He'd never mention those times he spilled tomato sauce on his documents.

"Weeell, that's the voice goin' round between the walls of our base", Kara chuckled, her amusement showing as clear as the sun. "Is that just gossip? If yes, then I'll say sorry, I swear." She didn't look very remorseful.

"Well, now that makes me wonder why you agreed to come here today, if you believe me to be that kind of man," Donovan answered with curiosity.
