"I won't. I mean..." Newt seemed a bit embarrassed, then smiled shyly at Ian. "I've got my first pay. It felt rather nice, actually."

Ian smiled up at him, beaming. "I am proud of you", he cooed, kissing the tip of his nose. "But I will admit that I preferred your hair as ot was before. It looked bolder", he teased his lover, poking his arm. "Doesn't matter, though. You still look as cute."

Newt snorted, and ran a hand through his hair. "Yeah, that. D'you think I can have it a bit wild back if I get a higher rank ?"

"The higher grade you get, the more free you are", Ian sentenced with a serious nod. "I had to shave my hair very short when I joined in. When I became officer, they stopped insisting for me to keep it like that, and now I have my hair back at an acceptable lenght." He smiled. Indeed, his hair reached below his shoulder.

Newt thought about it for a little while, as he ran a hand through Ian's hair. "... What should I do to get a higher rank, then ?"

Ian shrugged. "It really depends on your superior, actually. Here, it's based on how many people you arrest, and by how well you do your job. I have to train the recruits, for example, and they can report to my superior to tell them how good I am at my job. And they watch you too. To be brief: stand out from the crowd", he concluded. He carefully avoided saying that actually he had gotten a big promotion after he had almost stabbed an escaping prisoner with one of his horns.

Newt nodded. "And what can I do if my superior hates me ?" he asked carefully, trying not to raise Ian's anger.

"If your superior hates you?" Ian frowned, scratching his chin in thought. "Well... I'd advise going for a... superior-superior? Usually, if you have problems with your direct one, you go for his superior. It is a bit of an asshole move, and it can go terribly wrong if they don't listen to you, but it is basically all you can do." He hummed, still thinking. "... oh, and you can ask to be transferred, if it gets bad. Why you ask?"

"Because my superior hates me, Sherlock," Newt replied with a smile, finding his cluelessness awfully cute. "She knows I've been a thief, I think. She constantly watches after what I do, and makes sure I get extra tasks if she thinks I'm not working hard enough.

Ian stuck his tongue out at him playfully, but then frowned. "That's unfair. Everyone should get the same chances." He believed in that. He always treated all of his recruits in the same way. At least they couldn't say he had preferences! "Which grade is she?"

Ian's frown deepened. Damn, a grade up his. He had no voice in the treatment of her soldiers then. "I wonder if she is particularly mean to you just because of your... not clean curriculum. Some officers hold that kind of grudge against criminals. Have you... ever tried to talk it through with her, or is it too risky?"

Ian's frown couldn't really get any deeper. His thick eyebrows were almost looking like a single line of disapproval. "Do you want me to try and talk with my superior?" He didn't mention talk with her. It could have put Newt in trouble. "Maybe we can get you to transfer somewhere else."

"... Won't your superior ask questions, or possibly be against it, if they learn about us?" Newt wondered, as he rested his hand on Ian's chest, pondering the thought.

Ian pondered that question quietly, distractly stroking Newt's back. "It is a possibility", he muttered then. He trusted his superiors, and he liked to think this feeling was mutual, but of course they weren't going to take everything he said for granted. "Well, I could try. I will just ask. If they will say anything against it, I'll tell them to forget about it, and we'll see." His plans were always so approximative!

Newt smiled fondly at him and kissed him again. "Don't worry too much about it. As long as I can sneak into your room at night while my team is there, I'll be happy," he purred into his ear.

Ian didn't look very convinced, but smiled back at his lover. "You'll be welcome in my room at any hour, and you know it", he murmured, kissing him back, shivering a bit when Newt's hot breath fanned over his ear.

"And if that happens once too much, I will casually change night watches turns with my colleagues." Ian smirked. "No one refuses free night rest, when they can get it for no apparent reason at all", he nuzzled affectionately Newt's neck.

"A fool, you mean." Ian kissed him softly on the lips, sighing. The kiss became two, then three, then a lot, all merging together. "Do you have to get back in your room soon?", he asked after a while, not really eager to let him go.

Ian chuckled, embarrassed. "You make me look like a sort of depraved nymphomaniac or something. I would have some energy left honestly, but it all depends on how you are feeling", he said, kissing his cheek
