Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Hermes had gleefully bid goodnight to Charon - inwardly already thinking that maybe that addendum about him being 'just' Hermes could have been avoided, but whoopsie! too late for regrets -, had gone to work his shift to the pizzeria - up til one a.m. - and had then proceeded to stay awake another couple of hours browsing Twitter, Instagram and Youtube before suddenly falling asleep on his couch-bed with his phone on his face (that's what being both hyper-caffeinated and on a constant sugar rush does to you if you don't keep it up).
Thankfully if there was a quality that always granted Hermes praises from his many different employers, it would have been his ability to be perfectly punctual always, no matter where he was and for what time he needed to be in another place. Even if he had woken up quite late and definitely feeling super sleepy still, two cups of very, very sugary coffee later, he was up and ready to go.
The friend that was currently hosting him had thankfully managed to give him a lift nearby the city centre before dropping at his workplace. I say thankfully because honestly, Hermes could've jogged up to the place with no problem whatsoever - but what kind of impression would he have made, to try on a suit while being all sweaty, right? He pushed his hands in the oversized pockets of his just-as-oversized, noisy orange jacket, complete with yet another oversized belonging - a very long scarf (yeah, he hadn't been joking when he had defined it a potato sack, it really wore big on him) and ran his hand through his short hair, that always managed to look kind of stylish even though he hadn't been seeing a hairdresser since... probably ages. He was wearing a very simple hoodie underneath - bright yellow, with a pair of wings drawn on the back - and a simple pair of jeans that definitely looked like it had seen better days. The only accessory he was wearing were two golden stud-earrings on each ear, that he had gotten with his very first paycheck.
He froze on the spot as he was walking towards the café, briefly, when he noticed a... freakishly tall, darkly dressed figure with almost paper-white skin, hints of dozens and dozens of golden details on their coat flashing as the early sun hit them. One could've defined it a bit tacky, maybe - Hermes simply thought it was very bold of someone to wear that much gold both on their clothes and accessories. The figure exuded command, and it was definitely as intimidating as someone could ever be. But he hadn't stopped because of that. He saw the wide, brimmed hat.
And he grinned.
He confidently (even though his heart beated with excitement) walked up to the man and tapped his arm, smiling brightly up at him. "Hey there, boss!", he greeted him. Yeah, this had to be Charon. "You sure stand out in a crowd! Should've told me I'd recognize you because you tower over literally everyone else, like - you're aware you're super tall, right?" He offered him his hand to shake, still smiling widely. "Nice to meet you in person!"
Make me stop please-

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
To pass the time while waiting for Hermes - if his date was extrememy poncual, Charon was always a little early - he had lit himself a cigarette, and was busy finishing it when the other man arrived.
He held back a smile - that was barely visible on his thin lips - and exhaled some smoke through his nose before he shook Hermes' hand.
He then got rid of his cigarette butt in his portable ashtray - a metal box that looked extremely fancy - and swiftly took his phone out to type to Hermes. He doubted he knew any sign language anyway, so this would be the easiest way for them to communicate. "I tend to forget about it if I haven't bumped into a doorframe for more than a week."
He hadn't lied about awkward silences.

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Hermes felt the coldness of Charon's many - very many - rings as they shook hands. Well! This man sure liked to wear his money all over him, eh? Nothing wrong with that, honestly. He found himself hoping he wasn't the kind of person into the wrong kind of ostentation. You know. Like some certain someones he happned to know. He cleared those clouds away from his brain with a quick, metaphorical sweep of a broom, and took advantage of the couple of seconds of respite as Charontook his phone out to observe the man in front of him more closely, taking in the little details and smiling to himself. He hadn't been wrong, calling him good looking - it was a very particular brand of good looking. Just the kind he preferred!
He felt his phone buzz in his pocket and barely held back a knowing smirk as he fished it out. "Wonder who would write to me while I'm out on a date", he hummed jokingly. He quickly read the text and laughed. "HA, can't say I've ever had that experience! But I get it, I get it!" He looked him up and down again. "Say, you've got a very original style there. The large hat, the rimmed glasses, the whole black-and-gold color palette- very gothic. Suits you amazingly well, though. Are you in the fashion industry and very good at exploiting your strong points or are you a vampire and very bad at hiding it?"

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Charon smiled to himself. Well! It wasn't often that someone complimented both his looks and his style. He appreciated compliments as much as the next person.
"You found me out. I come from a lineage of European goth vampires, and I hired you because I've been pestered for eons about the fact that I still haven't showed up with a +1. But we are, in fact, tied to the fashion industry."
He fished for a business cards inside his coat, and showed it to Hermes. Charon Cthonia, Finances Top Executive, Hades. Charon tapped on the card on Hades' brand logo, that was known around for its luxury jewelry and precious stones.

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Hermes chuckled at Charon's answer. "Aw, that's not very nice of them. After eons, one would expect the pestering to get to a closure." Heh. The man was funny - he could appreciate someone with some self-irony. Usually people with a certain status tended to take themselves much too seriously to his taste. He peeked at the business card that was being offered to him and whistled, reaching to grab it. Finances Top Executive... that explained how this guy was rolling in dough. "Oh, yeah. I've heard of Hades. Very high-end brand." He had heard of Hades the company - certainly not of Hades his uncle, since literally no relative of his ever mentioned him. "So fashion but accessories-wise. I see!" He smiled up at Charon, raising a brow. "You're like a walking advertisement then, eh Boss? Bet all of your vampire family buys in those fancy stores."

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Charon held back a smile, and invited Hermes to get inside the cafe with him, so they could speak seated. "They do. We are, after all, goth vampires, so it suits our aesthetics. We also go to the same tailor, that I introduced to the family myself. Which is why we're getting you a suit there, or it would arise suspicions." Once they found a table, he took his coat off, and offered Hermes the seat in front of him, before he sat down himself.
And he briefly glanced at one of the waitresses complaining to her colleague that Hell no, she would not serve the 'creepy deaf guy'. He was unmoved by it, however - he got that a lot. But contrary to common belief, his hearing was fine, thank you very much.

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Hermes nodded along as he read Charon's answer, and happily - and messily - flopped down in the offered seat with a chipper 'Why thank you sir'.
But, differently from his companion, Hermes was neither deaf himself nor gracious enough to pretend he hadn't heard the not-quiet-at-all comment about the creepy deaf guy.
And most of all, he really enjoyed to put people like those at their rightful place way too much to let it go unpunished. "Yeah, uh, I sure hope you don't come over to serve us, sweetheart", he exclaimed out loud, not even raising his eyes from his phone. "Because after that comment, like hell you're getting any kind of tip. Ya hear?" He threw her a grin. "He hears quite fine." He turned to face Charon again, still being carefully loud. "I see why you never brought me here before Boss, service in this place is awful! Definitely gonna tell that all over Yelp."

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Charon paused and looked at Hermes with a quirked eyebrow at first, surprised to hear him talking back to their waitress. But he let out a pleased smirk without fighting it, revealing a set of teeth that had a very slight yellow hue that came from too much smoking.
"She's new. I won't fight you for that review, but given how often I show up here I can guarantee you she won't stay long with an attitude like that."
Said waitress bit on her lip and rushed to her manager, to confirm that indeed someone else should take care of that table.
And the manager herself - a lady with many ear piercings and a tight high ponytail - walked to their table after scolding that waitress harshly.
"Can't believe you managed to show up with a date. The usual, a-hole?" She asked to Charon moodily, before she turned her head towards Hermes. "Whoa, you're cute. What are you doing with this freak?"
Given the grin Charon was now wearing, they knew each other very well.

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Hermes' grin was positively feral, and he shot it right at Charon after reading his message. "Please, I wouldn't bother with an actual Yelp review", he waved at him. He hummed with satisfaction when he heard the rude waitress being harshly reproached by her manager. "I just wanted to make her feel bad for being an asshole. I'm pro-service staff usually, but only if they aren't garbage. Good to know they have standards here anyway." He blinked when the manager herself came at their table to take their order, raising a brow at the familiarity in her harsh tones - but smiling widely again when it became clear she was quite well aquainted with Charon. "Well! Maybe I just really like freaks", he answered with a wink. "Thanks for noticing how cute I am, though. I dig the high ponytail, very aggressive."

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Alecto - for it was her - seemed torn between fluster and offense. She threw a glance at Charon, who was now chuckling - he had a very quiet laugh - and she rolled her eyes. "Ugh. What is this, a date? I thought I told you I'd rather not see anyone of your family hooking up with anyone else until I die. Anyway-" She groaned and reminded Hermes that he had not ordered anything yet.
Meanwhile, Charon had been busy typing on his phone again, texting Hermes. "Family acquaintance. We're going to her sister and my brother's engagement party together. She hates my guts. And yours now too, congratulations. : )"

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Hermes ordered the most caffeinated thing they had on the menu - plus all the sugar they could fit in it, of course. He quickly glanced at his phone to read the message, and his smile widened into a grin once again. "Ah. I see then", he just said, throwing another glance to Alecto. He had no idea what he had done for her to hate his guts so soon, but hey. Also, had Charon just used a smiley face in his message? Cute. "Well - I'm sorry, ma'am, I don't really think that will be possible, right Boss?", he observed, grinning at Charon. "Maybe this will become our favorite dating spot! What's not to love?" Heh, might as well just play the part already. He was having a lot of fun - and Alecto seemed so irascible, how could he resist?

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Alecto made a face. Oh, she clearly made a face. In fact, she stuck her tongue at Hermes, and when Charon started to sign something to her she groaned. "Ugh, please don't. I'll get out of here. Of course your boyfriend had to be as annoying as you." She made a gesture to Charon that definitely looked like something telling him to go fuck himself, and it earned her another silent chuckle from the tall man.
"She hates everyone : )", Charon concluded after that encounter, "But that was fun, thank you. You are definitely qualified to meet with my relatives- and hers, actually. I would have warned you beforehand, but I had no idea she worked today."

"Oh, c'mon, I thought I was cute!", Hermes said out loud as Alecto walked off, probably gaining himself a rude gesture as well and chuckling about it. He turned to face Charon again. "If she hates everyone, then this is definitely the right job for her", he observed sarcastically. "You're welcome, though", he added, shooting him a grin and a wink. "The smiley faces really add to your messages, by the way. But so, are all of your relatives like that, like, should I be ready for everyone to hate my guts on sight or-?"

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Charon smiled to himself. He didn't take that decision consciously, but he would definitely add more smileys in his texts to Hermes from now on.
He took some seconds to think about his questions, but then started typing again. "My brother Than has quite a temper as well, so he'll probably glare at you through the whole event. But you won't have to worry about him - he'll be with his fiancés for the whole time. My other brother, on the contrary, will shower you with questions. As will my grandparent, probably."

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Hermes perked up, eyes wide open and as inquisitive as ever. It was so clear that he was bursting full of questions about the unspoken details in Charon's answering text that, if he had the chance of actually explode, he would have done just that. "Wait. Wait a second. So-" He took a deep breath. "You have two brothers then? Are they older, younger? Older and younger? And the one - Than, is that his full name by the way? - that is getting hitched has two fiancées!? That sounds amazing! I didn't even know it was allowed - also, wait, wait. Grandparent? Like, they're agender, or just gender-non-conforming, or-" And there down the road Hermes went, with his bag full of questions, which contents were all being poured over Charons' poor, hat-wearing head.
Well. Shame on him for having an interesting family.

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Charon chuckled some more, and gestured for Hermes to slow down. "I do have two brothers, both younger than me. They're the same age. Thanatos and Hypnos. Thanatos indeed has two fiancés - our dear waitress' sister, and a nice guy named Zagreus." He browsed through his phone to find him a selfie of Zagreus with his two significant others around him. He pointed to Thanatos, and then back at himself, so that Hermes might know which one was his brother.
Not that there were many doubts about it. They both glared at a camera the same way, and there definitely was some kind of family resemblance.
"Zagreus is probably going to marry only one of them on paper, but they agreed to do every celebration together : )"
He paused when Alecto came back with their drinks, that she gave them quickly, as if she wanted to get rid of this situation as soon as possible.
She did.

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Hermes greedily took in all the informations contained in Charon's text, and eagerly looked at the picture he was being shown - only to assume an amused expression when Charon felt the need to point towards the one who was clearly his brother. "I see the camera-scowl is a family heritage", he observed with a smirk. "As is the goth-styled vampirism, I guess. But, aw, that's very nice! Cute idea, wanting to celebrate everything together. Good for them!" He took the time to thank Alecto for his drink - with the most obnoxious smile he could muster, of course.

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Alecto was, of course, delighted by such a display of politeness! No, she wasn't. She made a face at Hermes and definitely gave him the finger as she walked away.
Charon nodded at Hermes' observation, after a slight smile regarding his and Thanatos' habit to glare at cameras. "I told you, we're a family of vampires." He showed him a picture of Hypnos who, funnily enough, definitely didn't look as goth as both of his brothers. He introduced him, of course, and briefly showed him how Nyx looked like, and then- a gorgeous elderly person whose age could have been anything between 40 and 80 years old. Barely a wrinkle. In shape and definitely still working out. Man or woman? Who knew. "That's my grandparent. They/them pronouns. I don't remember about the specifics - we've apparently covered that back when I was a child, and having that conversation again feels irrelevant to them."

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Hermes merely laughed at that offensive gesture, and returned all of his attention to Charon and his very interesting family of vampires. He had to agree that Hypnos didn't look exactly the same level of vampirism as his two brothers - it felt a bit like seeing a sleepy parrot sandwiched between a raven and a crow. Funny! Well, maybe only Thanatos and Charon were onto this whole goth shtick after all.
He had to rethink that when he was shown Nyx, as she definitely looked like some rich, powerful and ageless vampire lady. And he perked up once again when Charon ended up on a picture of his grandparent, and he read the text. "Wow. They sound very cool - someone's grandparent who even knows that you can be neither a woman or a man is really something I had never even thought could exist. ... alright, alright", he exclaimed then, raising his hands with a sigh. "You win. It had started as a joke, but now I am definitely, hundred-percent convinced that your whole family is made up of vampires. Look - I can't even try to guess their age, or your mother's!"

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Charon chuckled. "Neither do I know regarding my grandparent. They're clouded in mystery. But feel free to question them about it when you two meet - I'm sure they'll find it entertaining."
He momentarily stopped texting to take a long sip of his black coffee. "I will respect your privacy and not ask about your family in return- anything you wish to make up and tell my relatives is fine by me." He had told Hermes about his own family so that he may act like someone who had been dating him for a few weeks at least, and had learned about his family. After all- no matter how pleasant their meeting was, it was closer to a business meeting than an actual date.

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Hermes grinned, but didn't answer. He just sipped on his coffee for a little while - almost finishing it all in one go and, ah, good, they had sweetened it in just the way he wanted! Which was the most excessive way possible, of course.
He seemed to grow thoughtful, when Charon added that last message. True, he had almost forgotten about the fact that this wasn't really a date, but more like two people scheming together to fool a whole family - or three, actually, since we were talking about an engagement party to a trouple. He rested his elbows on the table. Did he want to talk about his family? No. Not at all, actually. Granted, there were a couple of his relatives that he really liked - that he really felt as brothers. But he didn't exactly feel the wish to say out loud just who his father was. ... on the other hand- "I really appreciate that. Means a lot that you want to respect my privacy." It really did. "Look, I'll level with you here - I don't like my family all that much. It's a whole mess", he started, uncharacteristically careful about the words he picked. "But, well- you've been honest with me, and nice, so I think you deserve some information back. A little quid pro quo, you know. And", he added, perking up again a little bit, "there's something better than lies, when you're planning something like the thing we want to pull off. And it's half-truths. They help to sell a story. So - let's make this a little game", he exclaimed. Yes, good - it sounded less heavy and serious that way. "Ask away any question you wish about me. Anything. I'll answer truthfully - that way you won't act surprised when I answer to your relatives' questions - but, in regards to my family, I'll be as vague as I can possibly be - or skip the question entirely." He grinned. "That alright with you, Boss? What would you say. Wanna get to know a little bit of just Hermes?", he joked.
And look at Gravi go, once again, off the tangent *dies*

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Charon was a little unsettled at first, and he took some time trying to decipher Hermes' expression. But he eventually relaxed. "I'm not one to push to get answers. If most of your family is something you're not too comfortable with discussing, whether we've been 'dating' or not, it won't look too odd if I don't know everything about you. That being said-" He let out a smile, and took another long sip of his black coffee. "Were I your partner, I'd like to know more about 'Just' Hermes indeed. Namely, what kind of job he does. If he's done with his studies. How old he is. If orange is his favourite color."

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Hermes' grin quivered for a split second - he felt kind of moved about the fact that a man he barely even knew was so hellbent in respecting his privacy and his agency on what to say about himself and what not. He knew many people who wouldn't just simply take a 'I don't like this and don't want to talk about it' as an answer. An instant later he looked like his usual laid-back self, and he hummed, smiling at Charon as he leant back on his chair. "All very interesting questions! Let's see." He raised a hand, using it to count his answers. "My - very - temporary job is pizza delivery man. Yeah, I know, not really as glamorous as head of finances", he interjected with a wink. "You can bet whatever you want that next month I'll be giving you a different answer though. I like living vicariously", he concluded with a grin. "Oh, I'm done with my studies alright. I've speedran my way through classes. Never really did anything with my degree, though - it's just, kind of there. Taking the dust." He had only finished those three years of University for the sake of it - because he had made many good friends there. Because the expenses had been paid for already anyway. But like hell he'd give Zeus the satisfaction of using something he'd paid for. "I'm 25. And-" He dramatically rested a hand on his chest, assuming a clearly fake expression of surprise. "I don't know whatever gave you the idea that orange might be my favorite color, my good sir", exclaimed the man with the most obnoxious orange jacket the world had ever seen, "but your assumption is correct!" He rested his cheek on his palm. "I'd like to shot the age question back to you as well - and to bet to you that black is not your vamiric majesty's favorite color, but that purple is", he added with a smirk, gesturing towards the shirt and the glasses. "Why tinted glasses, by the way?"

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Charon let out a small smile. "So you live free and in the moment. I'm not one to judge these kinds of lifestyles either. One of my close friends does the same." Zagreus, namely, kept on trying to find himself a job that would suit his tastes, and would allow him not to inherit his father's commercial empire. Poor boy loathed paperwork.
He was amused when Hermes pretended offense, nodded in approval when he assumed that purple was his favourite color, and then remained silent for a bit when asked about his tinted glasses.
Without a word, he slid them down his nose, revealing eyes that were mostly red. Now that did complete the vampire look pretty well.

Re: 9 - 'I need a date'
Hermes just grinned. "Thank you for being un-judgemental then", he answered, finishing up all of his coffee with a single gulp. It was better if Charon didn't know exactly how much free and in the moment he lived. He genuinely liked this man, and he wouldn't want him to lose any semblance of respect he might have for him. He blinked when the other man wordlessly brought his hand to his peculiar glasses, and let out a stupefied "Oh!" when he took in the reddish color of his irises.
He felt himself smile. This man really was just as peculiar as all the evidence suggested. "Fascinating", he hummed, leaning towards him to better look. "I'm going to guess... some form of albinism?" He seemed to realize something and backed off slightly, laughing sheepishly. "Sorry, I didn't want to be invasive. It was probably rude, right?" He often unconsciously stepped over people's boundaries.
