Newt came back with a beaming smile... which slowly disappeared. "... are you okay?"

For as cheesy as it could seem, Newt's smile made him relax a bit. He took a breath, and smiled at him. "I am ok, don't worry. Just a bit nervous", he added, his smile getting more sheepish. "After all, I have a date and I still don't know his name."

Newt smiled again, in a kinder way this time. "Alright. Name's Newt. Newt Ingerst. Happy now?" he asked him as he took both of them out, his fingers attempting to catch his.

Ian nodded, a satisfied expression on his face. "Way better", he said. He opposed zero resistance to Newt's fingers catching his own, letting himself be guided away. He even dared to grab the other man's hand a bit more firmly. Yeah, better relax. It's not like anything could go overly wrong!

"Alright, look. If we're trying to date, I swear I won't try to steal your wallet again," Newt promised him. "Don't be so tense, ok? ~"

Ian sighed. "Alright. I promise I am relaxed down", he said, then looking at him. "... nor others' wallets, right?", he added, a small smirk on his lips. "Or this time I'll really have to arrest you, and we'll only be able to have dates during jail lunch hour!"

"Aww. Alright," Newt promised. But he looked at Ian, quite curious. "Is it really why you were so stressed, though?"

Ian scratched his neck, a bit embarrassed. "I know it might seem stupid from your point of view, but... well, this job is literally all I have. And I really don't want to arrest you", he added, looking almost fondly at their entwined hands.

Newt looked at him, first confused, but then... more fondly. "Alright, you know what? We can keep this secret," he offered as he took his hand out of his. "But if this works out... Well, who knows. I might let myself get convinced of finding myself a reasonable job."

Ian blinked at him. Then he positively beamed at Newt, a bright smile opening on his face. "That sounds very nice", he said kindly. "Alright, Newt. What would you like to do on this date? Go on a tour of the island? Stroll a bit in the city? I won't propose a swim."

Newt snorted. "Please, no. But I'd like a tour of the island, yes. Oh, and speaking of water... what is your devil fruit, exactly?"

"A Bull Zoan. Nothing too fancy", Ian smiled at him, starting to walk. "I guess it would have been perfect in case I'd have stayed in the countryside. What about yours?"

"Oh... Mine is a paramecia type. I can get any part of my skin to stick to anything. That's mostly it," Newt shrugged, then smiled. "To be honest, I haven't been doing much with it aside from climbing walls and stealing wallets."

Ian laughed. "I will admit it surprised me a lot when you started climbing that wall like a gecko. I bet it saved you from a lot of dire circumstances", he added. They were climbing in a big street, pretty crowded. A sweet smell of baked goods was spreading in the air.

Newt laughed kindly. "It startles most people, yes ~ By the way, how could your zoan ability have been useful in a farm?" He tried not to get too seduced by the smell of sweet pastries. He was used to never get treats, but... they always tempted him.

"Oh, you know... I'd get attached to a carriage, or I could pull the plow. That kind of stuff", Ian shrugged. "My dad would have preferred me to stay and do that, without a doubt." No lie, all that sweet smell was starting to get to him too. "Hey, wanna take some sweets? My treat this time", he smiled to Newt.

"Sure!" Newt replied, maybe a bit too fast. But he laughed kindly. "But then... you didn't like it much at the farm?"

"Eeh not with my old man around. He gave me a lot of shit because I preferred staying with mom and my sisters. You know, called me a sissy and stuff. I wouldn't have minded it otherwise", Ian answered distractedly as he got near an open air bakery who had exposed lots of colorful round sweets. "We'll have four of the small ones please!", he asked an elderly lady.

The lady smiled to Ian and promptly packed the sweets for them.

Newt, on the other side, was feeling a little bit concerned. "Are you worried about dating me as a man? I mean... after what your father called you?"

Ian smiled kindly at him. "With six fierce women ready to back me up? I never once had to care about what he called me." He took the sweets and paid for them, smiling at the seller. "And besides, I am a grown up man. I make my choices." He took Newt's hand and started walking again.

Newt smiled at his words, and then tightened slightly his grisp around Ian's hand. "Ian, how about we find a quiet place to eat those? Like, on the beach or something."

Ian smiled. "Sure", he answered. In no time, they were already away from the main streets, the voices of people further away as they found themselves walking on the docks again, to go to the beach.

Ian looked at him, surprised that he had noticed that. "... oh, uhm... you see, I always feel conflicted when I like someone or something but I know that I shouldn't. It makes me bit uneasy", he confessed. "But, I would have ended up dating you anyway if you asked. Just so you know", he added, muttering embarrassed.
